4 hours tour of Dutch Venice: Giethoorn

Description:

This is a very small village, remarkable, first of all, because it has no streets - it is located in the middle of the water.

The difference between real Venice and Heathoorn is that the real Venice is submerged in water as the land on which it is built slowly sinks into the sea.

In Giethorne, each of the houses was on its own island due to the fault of the residents themselves. The fact is that the main occupation of the villagers was peat mining. And dug it where it was most convenient - right in front of the houses. Peat over time was produced, in place remained pits, which were gradually filled with water. Even the neighbours have to be reached by boat.
