Amsterdam

Amsterdam – City of Diamonds

Description:

There are 23 enterprises for cutting and manufacturing of finished products. The history of this industry in Amsterdam begins in the 16th century. The Diamond Museum is located on the Museum Square and in an interactive form tells about the history of the diamond industry and other interesting facts.
In Amsterdam cut not only the largest diamonds ever found in nature, but also put the edges on the smallest and it is marked by the Guinness Book of Records.
It is interesting to visit the largest and oldest enterprises in Europe. Here you will learn about diamond cutting and classification processes. You can also see branded diamonds with the number of faces exceeding the generally accepted two and three times. You can see (and, of course, if you want, buy) products of indescribable beauty that are not found in ordinary jewelry stores.

In some diamond factories in Amsterdam, jewelry prices are two or three times cheaper than in Russia. You will find out where you can buy products without VAT (which in the Netherlands for jewelry is 16%) and get a tangible discount. In the largest factories in Amsterdam, you will always have the opportunity to change the previously purchased diamond products for more expensive ones, without a markdown for wear, provided that you keep the certificate. Here you buy from manufacturers with a worldwide reputation.

Many diamonds that are cut in countries with cheap labor are not very correct proportions due to the fact that they are cut by machines, and one operator controls several machines at once to reduce the cost and speed up the cutting process. So, at the same weight, one stone can shine, and the other does not shimmer at all. Cheaper doesn’t mean “beautiful” in jewelry. Often the opposite.

It is very important to pay attention to certificates. Who says that a stone has exactly the characteristics that form such a price? I personally recognize only three reputable certification laboratories. In my opinion, only they guarantee a true description of the characteristics of a diamond.

HRD – Laboratory of the Supreme Council of the Diamond Exchange

GIA - The Gemological Institute of America

IGI – Laboratory of the International Gemological Institute
