Brussels – City of Contrasts
Description:
Briefly speaking about Brussels is not easy. This rich history, multifaceted and wayward city, depending on the mood, turns to you one or another person. On the one hand, it is a medieval city of artisans and merchants, which was famous for the production of cloth, tapestries, Brabant lace and hundreds of varieties of beer. On the other hand, it is the capital of the young kingdom of Belgium and the business center of the united Europe. The European Parliament and the European Commission are located here, numerous international festivals and exhibitions are held.
However, all this splashing modernity easily coexists with echoes of the thousand-year history of the city, forming a strange but charmingly peculiar mixture of medieval houses and Gothic cathedrals with masterpieces of modern architecture and glass skyscrapers.
Walking around the city, you will learn why the cathedral of the city is dedicated to St. George. Michael and St. John. Gudule and why the symbol of independence of Belgium is the Royal Theatre of Monnet, get acquainted with the smallest, most “old” and most famous resident of Brussels – the Peeing Boy and pass through the narrow streets of the “Womb of Brussels”. You will also see the symbol of the capital Atomium, the Royal Palace, the Museum of Fine Arts, the Big and Small Sablon, the Palace of Justice and houses, the walls of which are decorated with enlarged "quotes" from comic books, elevated here to the rank of art. Brussels is also known as the city of jokers.
Yes, they love kind humor and fervent laughter, but even more they love the famous Burgundy cuisine: Belgian beer pouring in the river, chocolate melting in the mouth and delicious Brussels waffles with powdered sugar and hot cherries... Fingers are good! But where all this can be tasted and bought as a souvenir, a tour of the city will tell you.
