Excursion to the Rijksmusium: Journey to the Looking Glass
Description:
Everyone watches, few see.
(Leonardo da Vinci)
Did you know that many 17th century Dutch paintings are encrypted? How many symbols and hidden meanings does the Grand Hall hold? What idea did the architect put into the project of the museum building? I suggest that we go to the Looking Glass of the 17th century together for answers to these questions. And not only that!
In the Looking Glass of the Rijksmuzium, I will tell you what distinguished Dutch art in the Golden Age, how artists lived and worked, what was so special in their paintings. We will admire the creations of the “small” and at the same time truly great Dutch, as well as the masterpieces of Rembrandt and Vermeer. I will tell you how their contemporary could “read” the picture, and what is often hidden from our eyes. Then we will admire the world’s best ship model and even see sailors on a ship scraping the deck, a surgeon bandaging the wound, and seagulls hovering above the ship. And also marvel at the unique doll houses and in detail consider how the gentlemen lived in the 17th century. You will learn the history of the appearance of Delft porcelain, and what is its feature. I will show you in which vases it was customary to put literally precious tulips. You will learn why the flower vase symbolized status and wealth, as well as the white collar of the millstone. Yes, we will talk about the fashion of the 17th century, because even the white collar around the neck of the master has its own story! And I'll also show you what rich citizens hid behind seven castles and how they had fun at the feast table. I promise that our trip to the Looking Glass will be very exciting!
See you on the tour!
