Amsterdam

Holland in miniature: Adam and Volendam

Description:

Edam fascinates the traveler at first sight. The quiet, homely atmosphere of this medieval town is quite unlike the bustling Amsterdam. We will walk along the cozy, quiet streets, where there are "puppet" houses of the XVI - XVIII centuries - the architectural heritage of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. You will see picturesque backwaters, flower courtyards, old wooden drawbridges across the canals, the oldest shipyard. We will go to the square, where boats brought cheese "edam" - a local delicacy. You will learn what ritual was observed by the merchant and the buyer of cheese, negotiating the price. On one of the houses in this square is a mermaid. Edam is not just an ancient city. It's a city of legends. And one of them is about a mermaid who lived on land and yearned for the sea.

And where, if not in Edam, to buy cheese, got its name from the city? Traditional, with seasonings, black pepper or truffles. You can find cheese for every taste here!

If you want to taste the most delicious herring and smoked eel in the Netherlands, then Volendam is a world-famous fishing village. This village is known for its landscapes and a special atmosphere created by the sea, sun, masts of sailboats and neat Dutch houses. Here, behind the most ordinary-looking facade of the hotel, a real art gallery hides. You enter and enter the late 19th century. How nice to drink a cup of coffee surrounded by real masterpieces! Very close to the noisy harbor are quiet old streets. This is the other side of Volendam - quiet, cozy.

The most delicious fish near Amsterdam can be tasted in a fish restaurant or in small eateries. Here you can also take a photo in national costume and buy interesting quality souvenirs.
