In 4 hours to visit the Castle of Miauderslot - 13th century

Description:

The first information about the castle is known from the 1280s, when the castle was either built, or the finished building was purchased by Count Floris V of Holland.

The castle is located at the mouth of the Wecht River, which was used as a transport artery to the city of Utrecht and is located 15 km southeast of Amsterdam. Behind the moats with water are a drain garden and a grass garden.

The castle was a place for collecting taxes from merchant boats going to the important shopping center of Utrecht. Count Floris V was assassinated on June 27, 1296.

He was first captured by conspirators during a hunt. Five days later, the imprisoned count made an unsuccessful attempt to escape, while pursuing the fugitive, he was killed.
