Amsterdam Flower Market

Singel 610-616, Amsterdam, Netherlands, +3120 625 8282 & #8206

Description:

One of the most beautiful, vibrant and fragrant sights of the city of Amsterdam is the floating flower market Bloemenmarkt, the only one of its kind. No country in the world will find this.

The sale of flowers from boats began in the XVII century. In those days, boaters, sailing along the coastal city streets of Amsterdam, offered to buy bouquets passers-by.

Until the middle of the XIX century, the market was located on the Sint Lucienval Canal, where the city moat was located. After the authorities decided to fall asleep, the market moved to a new place, where it continues to be today, namely, on the Amsterdam channel Singel. It is practically in the city center between two squares: Koningsplein and Muntplein.

Flower shops are located on floating barges. Previously, only live flowers in pots were sold here. Today, the flower market is a place of constant visit of tourists and by and large exists only because of them. On the market you can buy a variety of flowers and local and exotic. Especially a lot of tulips are presented, the bulbs of which are sold by weight. In addition to flowers, you can find a huge number of souvenirs here.
