Vondela Park

Vondelpark 1, 1071 AA Amsterdam

Description:

Vondela Park is a public city park in Amsterdam, opened in 1865. It was originally called Nieuwe Park (New Park), but was later renamed in honor of the outstanding Dutch writer and playwright of the XVII century Jost van den Vondel.

The park is quite large – it covers an area of 47 hectares – and annually attracts more than 10 million visitors. This is not surprising, because all conditions for a full and versatile rest are created here - in the film museum located in the pavilion of the XIX century, film screenings, lectures, exhibitions, meetings are regularly held, there is also an open-air theater that performs the functions of a concert hall, a playground, a rose garden, etc.

In 1867, a monument to Jost van den Vondel (by Peter Kuipers) was erected in the park. In addition, in the park there is a sculpture “Fish” by the famous Pablo Picasso.

In 1996, Vondela Park received the status of a “state monument”.
