The only floating flower market in the world on the Singel Canal is one of the brightest and most fragrant sights of Amsterdam throughout the year.
The uniqueness of this market is that the goods are presented on floating barges. This is a tribute to tradition, as earlier flowers and plants were brought here for sale from gardens and greenhouses on barges. Live flowers are delivered to the market daily, but now they are brought in mini trucks, not by water.
Floating barge shops now allow you to buy both cut flowers and potted flowers as well as bulbs. Here you will find not only traditional tulips, but also exotic plants. If desired, you can choose flowers in colorful vases or in the form of a mill, a shoe, a dwarf’s cap.
In December, the market is dominated by green, as Christmas trees of all shapes and sizes are sold here.
