Ilpenstein Castle
Description:
Ilpenstein Castle is located in the province of North Holland, not far from Amsterdam. It was erected in 1622, on the site of an old building, since the Civil Revolution. With its towers and moat, Ilpenstein looked like a castle, but in fact it looked more like a mansion. It was originally owned by Mr Purmerland.
In the Middle Ages, the castle belonged to Peter de Graf and Jacob Bicker, local poets and writers.
The last inhabitants of the castle, Cristina Elizabeth de Graf and her husband Jacob Gerrit van Garderen, lived in the castle until 1872, when it was destroyed.
On the site of the castle, today, there is a walking park, many artificial ponds and monuments.
