Nederhorst Castle
Slotlaan 4, 1394 BK Nederhorst den Berg, Amsterdam.
Description:
Nederhorst Castle is located not far from the Dutch city of Amsterdam, in the province of North Holland.
According to historical data, the first mention of the castle dates back to the XIII century. It may have once been the site of older fortresses, but there has been no archaeological research. Initially, the castle was called Horst and was located in a strategically important area between Holland and the Utrecht Bishopric. In 1672, the fortress was used in the war as a defensive structure, and a year later it was sold. After that, the castle was rebuilt, in each corner was erected a high hexagonal tower, and about the XVIII century it received its modern appearance.
In 1960, the castle was acquired by Nedger van Yoenker, who placed his collection of watches in it. In 1971, a fire broke out and the entire collection burned down. Only 2 years later the castle was reconstructed.
Currently, the castle is used by an advertising company, as well as several tenants. Sometimes there are TV shows.
