Rembrandt House Museum

Nieuwmarkt en Lastage, Binnenstad

About the company:

The Art Museum on Jodenbreestraat Street in Amsterdam. The museum opened in 1911 in the house that Rembrandt acquired at the peak of fame in 1639 and where he lived until his bankruptcy in 1656.

The museum has restored the historical setting of Rembrandt’s time: the kitchen, living rooms and the artist’s studio. The source for the exposition of the museum was an inventory compiled by a notary when selling all the artist’s property at auction.

The collection in its present form is an almost complete overview of Rebrandt’s graphic works: 260 of the 290 engravings created by the master are presented. In addition to the collection of engravings, drawings and copper plates of the master himself, the Rembrandt House Museum also houses some paintings by Rembrandt’s teacher, his students and contemporaries. Among the most interesting exhibits are engravings by Leiden artists Jan Lievens and Johan van Vlith who collaborated with Rembrandt.
