Kattenburgerplein 1, Amsterdam, The Netherlands

About the company:

The magnificent Shipping Museum is located in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Its four exhibitions are entirely devoted to maritime themes and include portraits of Dutch officers, paintings depicting great naval battles, models of ships and weapons, as well as various ship equipment. Among the collection of maps of the museum are the works of famous cartographers of the XVII century - Jan and Willem Blau.

The most important attraction of the Shipping Museum is one of the surviving copies of "De Moluccis Insulis" - the work of Maximilian Transylvan, in which he described the famous voyage of Ferdinand Magellan. The museum building is a former naval warehouse built in 1656. At its entrance is a ship that is similar to the one that sailed between the West Indies and the Netherlands.

From 2010 to 2011, the museum underwent major renovations, and in June 2011 it reopened to visitors. The Shipping Museum is open daily from 10:00 to 17:00. This place is perfect for family holidays, as it carries a huge cultural and historical value.
