Delft

Charming Delft

Description:

Walking through the charming Delft, I will tell you all the most interesting from the history of one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands. You will learn the legend of the construction of the local “Tower of Pisa” and the story of the miraculous appearance of the Virgin Mary, on the site of which the second tallest church in the country was built. Why is this church always black, even though it is made of white stone? And why aren't those neat Dutch even trying to clean it?

We will visit the burial place of the royal family. I will tell you how the ceremony takes place, what is the symbolism of the main mausoleum of the kingdom, and what a scandal once happened!

You will learn about the famous locals:
about the city blessed and her power of faith;
a great jurist, cunningly escaped from an impregnable fortress;
about the artist Vermeer and his marriage;
about the murder of William the Silent and the reason why he received such a nickname;
* and even the local liar the whole county was going to listen to.

Delft is the birthplace of “Delft porcelain”, which finished all the fireplaces and stoves in the Russian palaces of Peter’s times. Here you will find the famous faience on every corner: in specialized shops, in antique shops, as well as in the flea market.

During the tour you will see:
Old and New Churches, Royal Shrine;
Princenhof (the residence where William of Orange was killed)
monument to Hugo Grotius;
Vermeer Museum;
• old prison, town hall and weight;
The longest street bridge;
a monument to the local blessed woman;
* orphanage for orphaned girls;
An old chapel;
The smallest house in the city;
Fish rows.

If desired, we will visit the Delft Porcelain Factory, the Vermeer Museum, the Prinsenhof Museum.
