Edam

Fairytale Adam

Description:

Edam, a fabulous town with doll houses and lifting bridges, as if frozen in its "medieval slumber" and retained the atmosphere and spirit of the 16-17 centuries.

Much has happened in the glorious city of Edam throughout its history: riots, fires, floods with a mermaid, visits of important crowned persons and, of course, the famous cheese markets that gathered merchant people from all neighboring cities and lands and even from other countries.

To this day, these traditional cheese markets can be visited on Wednesdays in July and August, and in a small museum in the house of a merchant of the 16th century. to get acquainted with the customs of Edam of the good old times and the famous Aedamians who lived here at that time, the fame of which spread throughout the expanses of Holland far beyond their town.

The museum also presents the “miracle” of hydro-engineering technology of the Middle Ages – a unique design of a drifting basement, into which you can still descend and hear a nostalgic legend about one of its owners.
