Endegeest Castle
Netherlands, South Holland, Oegstgeest.
Description:
Endegest Castle is located in the Netherlands province of South Holland. It is located in a beautiful forest park within the city of Oegstgeest. The first information about it comes from 1307. And the foundation of the castle confirms this, it has been preserved since the XIV century. Unlike the foundation, the walls and other buildings of the castle are mostly of an increasingly late period.
By 1573, most of the castle of the XIV century was destroyed, and a new one was built around 1650. Of course, it was also slightly reconstructed over these several centuries, but on the whole it is preserved as it was built in the seventeenth century. In modern times, wooden parts of the vaults have been restored, as well as many tapestries hanging in the castle of Endegeest.
In 1895, the castle was purchased by the city of Leiden as a hospital. It currently houses a psychiatric hospital.
