Steenvoorde Castle
Netherlands, South Holland, Reiswijk.
Description:
Steenvoorde Castle was once located on the territory of the modern Dutch town of Reiswijk. Currently, the castle resembles the name of the district of the city, which was given in honor of the castle and a small plaque in the park where excavations were carried out and there was a historical location of the castle Steenvoorde.
As it is assumed, the castle already existed in the XIII century, experienced several destructions during military operations, then was restored several times. In recent years, on the territory where the medieval castle stood, there was a small estate, which at the beginning of the XX passed into a boarding school for boys in the Order of St. John. In 1944, the building was completely destroyed by German bombing.
