Landverhuizersplein 52, 3072 MH Rotterdam, Nederland
Description:
Montevideo is a 43-storey residential skyscraper, almost 140 meters high, located on the banks of the Meuse River in one of the cities of the Netherlands - Rotterdam. The building was opened on December 19, 2005.
The skyscraper contains a huge number of residential premises, office and retail space. The design of the architectural structure was developed by Mecanoo, and the name is borrowed from the capital of Uruguay - Montevideo.
On the roof of the skyscraper is a logo in the form of the letter “M”, designed specifically to be a giant weather vane that determines the direction and speed of the wind.
Externally, the high-rise building has an unusual shape and consists of multi-level parts, each of which harmoniously fits into the overall concept of the building. The modernist style of the tower is the hallmark of the building, allowing it to be one of the most recognizable and famous skyscrapers in the Netherlands. On both sides, Montevideo is surrounded by the waters of the river, which makes the panoramic view that opens from the upper floors of the building even more fascinating.
In 2005, the Montevideo skyscraper took third place in the Emporis Skyscraper Award, the world’s most famous award in the field of high-rise architecture. A year later, the skyscraper received the gratitude and award of the International Highrise Award, and was also awarded the Dedallo Minosse Award.
There are several restaurants in the building.
