Monument to Peter I
Veerhaven 16-17, Rotterdam, Netherlands
Description:
With the Netherlands of the Russian Tsar Peter the Great associated business relations. It became a place for him, from where he brought home knowledge and skills in maritime affairs. Therefore, the monument to the royal person in the Dutch city looks quite appropriate. By the way, the idea to put a monument to Peter in Rotterdam came to mind not the Dutch, but representatives of the Russian elite. Embodied the tsar in bronze sculptor Leonid Baranov.
Light, thin and swift Peter the Great - this is how he looks in his sculptural incarnation - resembles the famous monument of Shemyakin in the Peter and Paul Fortress of St. Petersburg. This slightly scandalous fact, however, cannot overshadow the artistic merit of the sculptural portrait. Quietly and joyfully looks bronze Peter on Rotterdam and quite obviously feels here at home.
