Honingen Castle
Netherlands, South Holland, Rotterdam.
Description:
Honingen Castle is once located on the territory of Honingen Park, located in the city of Rotterdam. At first, the castle belonged to the small town of Kralingen, which later became part of Rotterdam, becoming its district. The first mention of the castle can be found in documents from 1297.
In 1426 the castle was demolished, but after a while it was completely restored in all its glory. The park and the pond nearby were put in order. But in the XVI century during the Eighty Years' War the castle was finally destroyed. In the nineteenth century, all land was bought by the city. The park became a public place for recreation, and on the banks of the pond, which is even older than the castle, in the XIX century a mansion was built. In the XX century around the pond was built several luxury mansions.
