Oudegracht-Weerdzijde, 3512 Utrecht, Netherlands

Description:

The Old Canal, located in the historic center of Utrecht, is among the main attractions not only of this picturesque city, but also occupies one of the leading places in the list of the most famous and beautiful canals of the Netherlands. The canal area is very popular among citizens and guests of the city, being a favorite place for walking and recreation.

The old canal stretches from the Rhine River to the northern district, crossing the central part of the city. Its distinctive feature compared to other channels is that it is divided into two tiers. The roadway is located several meters above the water level, so a small embankment was arranged on the lower tier. As a result, a picturesque walking area was formed, which is perfectly complemented by small tables of summer cafes, hiding in the shade of trees. The banks of the canal are connected by beautiful bridges. On the embankment of the Old Canal is always crowded - young people gather here for communication, couples in love walk and hundreds of tourists with cameras.
