Here, in the courtyard of the main university building, there is a monument to Count Jan VI van Nassau, who entered not only the history of Utrecht, but also the history of the Netherlands. The monument is made of bronze and stands on a stone pedestal.
Count Jan VI van Nassau was born in 1536 and became famous as one of the active defenders of Calvinism, was a supporter of a public and understandable interpretation of the Gospel. One of the most important acts of Count van Nassau was his participation in the creation of the famous historical document, better known as the Union of Utrecht.
