Clarenburg Manor

Achter Clarenburg 6a 3511 JJ Utrecht

Description:

Clarenburg Manor is located in the Dutch city of Utrecht, and is a former city castle built in the XII century.

The basements of the estate date back to the beginning of the XII century, and until now they have remained almost unchanged. Since the XVII century, the Church of Mary was completed to the estate, and in the XIX century the building itself was restored, which the architects performed in the neo-Gothic style.

In the 60-70s of the XX century, the building was threatened with demolition, since it was decided to build a highway in this area, but due to numerous protests of local residents, the idea had to be abandoned.

At the moment, in the premises of the former castle there is a restaurant hosting mainly corporate parties, banquets and wedding celebrations. The building is listed in the National Register of Monuments of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
