Blikkenburgerlaan 4,3703 CV Zeist
Description:
Blikkenburg Castle is located in the Western District of Zeist, the Dutch province of Utrecht.
Initially, Blickenburg Castle was the center of the foundation of the provincial town of Riederhof, in the northern part of the then district city of Zeist. Following historical sources, the castle was built in the middle of the XIV century, a gentleman from the city of Vulvain.
According to some historical data, at the time of the foundation of the castle, at the behest of the owner’s daughter, the floors in the building were painted only red or gold.
In 1627, the castle was completely destroyed during the Dutch Revolution, but in the same year, it was completely restored. On its facade was built a balcony, rising to the second floor.
The base of the balcony is supported by 4 columns. Today, the castle is included in the register of national monuments of the Netherlands.
