Brockhuisen Castle

Broekhuizerlaan 3 3956 NS Leersum

Description:

Brokheisen Castle is located in the Dutch city of Lirsum, Utrecht province. The castle acquired its current appearance in 1810. It was also rebuilt after a major fire in 1906. Then the architects tried to give it a more classical look, and reconstructed it in the style of Dutch classicism.

Initially, the castle had the shape of a rectangle, but later its architecture was amenable to changes, several floors were completed, and its central facade was pushed slightly forward. Also, carved columns were added to the architectural ensemble of the building.

Since the XIV century, the castle was owned by many aristocratic families and merchants, until the XX century, when the building was transferred to the National Institute of Natural Resources. Later, in 2006, the castle was sold through a mortgage, but its new owner could not cope with payment obligations, and eventually the castle became the property of Delta Lloyd. In 2007, the castle was overhauled, and in 2011 it was again sold on credit for 7 years.
