Gardenbrook Castle

Netherlands, Utrecht province, Risenburg, Langbroekerdijk 24

Description:

Gardenbrook Castle is located in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the province of Utrecht, the city of Risenberg.

The castle was built in 1309 and was a defensive fortress to protect against the raids of the Frisians.

The first owners of the castle were three brothers of the Steckenburg family. Their descendants owned the estate until 1684, when it was taken over by another influential family Rossem. In 1773, the castle was overhauled, after which it was immediately sold to the Gardenbrook family, which owns the castle to this day.

In 1995, the castle was rebuilt in the style of Dutch classicism. The last resident Baroness Henrietta Gardenbrook bequeathed the castle to her son Francis Loudon.

The castle is included in the list of historical monuments of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
