Lönerslot Castle
Netherlands, Utrecht Province, Lönerslot, Rijksstraatweg 211
Description:
Lönerslot Castle is located in the Dutch province of Utrecht, in the city of the same name, on the left bank of the Angstel River. Most likely, the castle was built in 1258, at that time it consisted of only one tower. Initially, it belonged to the Lönerslot family, until 1516 the heirs of the founders of the castle lived here. The castle was then bought by the Van Amstel family, and in 1707 it passed into the possession of Baron Johan Radt. In 1766 the castle was sold to Hendrik van Horn.
Since the XVIII century, the castle began to expand. 2 square buildings in 3 floors were added to the lonely tower, and a moat was dug around, which was filled with water.
Now the castle is a monument of the province and belongs to the foundation of Utrecht castles. Inside is a collection of old wooden furniture.
