Lünenburg Castle

Netherlands, Utrecht Province, Langbroek, Langbroekerdijk 99

Description:

Lünenberg Castle is located in the Dutch province of Utrecht, Langbrook. Lunenberg is currently a residential tower on the south side of the city river.

The first mention of the castle dates back to 1339, when Count Arnold van Zijl came to the city and began to call himself Lünenburg. The count owned the castle until 1422, when it was sold due to the accumulated debts.

In the XVIII century, the castle was taken over by the van Linden family. The building was reconstructed in the classic Dutch style.

During the Second World War, the castle was never under siege, but in 1944 it survived heavy bombardment, as a result of which the building was badly damaged. The castle was reconstructed only in 1970. It was returned to its former medieval appearance, based on drawings of the XVIII century.

Sometimes the gates of the castle open to the public, it hosts excursions and exhibitions.
