Wirdestane Castle

Netherlands, Utrecht, 3947 ND Langbroek.

Description:

Virdestein is a castle located in the Netherlands, in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a monumental monument. Little is known from the building’s early history, but the condition of the brick it is made of indicates that it was built around 1300.

The owners of the building were twin brothers Virgkeslot Virdestein. The castle was built in the form of a tower with a gatehouse, a moat, outbuildings and a drawbridge. He was surrounded by three channels.

In the XVI century, the tower was destroyed, but in 1870-1871 it was restored again. The construction was made in neo-Gothic style. In 1875, a farm was created around the island on which the castle is located.
