Cranestein Castle Building
Oudegracht 53D, 3511 AC Utrecht
Description:
Cranestein is a castle building located in the Dutch city of Utrecht.
The building is a large stone house, built in the XIV century, for the Crane family. The building was erected as a monolithic structure divided into the main structure, or the Great Cranestein, connected to two neighboring houses, including the Small Cranestein. Like most similar buildings in Utrecht, Cranestein is located along the old water channel.
The structure is built on a plot of 13 by 55 meters. In the underground level of the building there are seven basements, and in its northern part, directly in front of the canal, there are 2 berths.
At the moment, the building is used as a residence and warehouse. Between 1579 and 1740, the building housed a brewery known in history as Werrelt.
Gradually, with the history of the city, the building was also repeatedly rebuilt. Its main facade dates from the XVIII century.
