What to see in Sohar

Sohar is a port city in the north of Oman with a rich history and a special atmosphere of a maritime shopping center. The city combines ancient traditions and modern features: the narrow streets of the old city are replaced by the promenade and working port berths, and in the air there is a mixture of oriental culture and salt of the sea breeze.

Manufactures and facilities

Among the man-made attractions, the Rustak Fortress stands out - one of the highest and oldest fortresses of Oman, keeping the memory of the military and commercial eras of the region. In Sohar, it is also worth seeing historical fortifications, old mosques, museums and lively markets that show the crafts and life of the locals. Coastal promenades and ports add character to the city and give many points for walking and photography.

Natural attractions and places

The natural attractions around Sohar are no less impressive: the Jebel Shams Range, the “Mount of the Sun,” Oman’s highest peak with a maximum height of about 3,075 meters, offers breathtaking mountain views and deep gorges. The surroundings of the city are rich in coastal coves, sandy beaches and wadi, where you can enjoy the silence and scenery of the desert and sea in one trip.

Build routes and visit interesting places

On our site you can see all these attractions on an interactive map, read brief descriptions of each place and build your own route around the city and surroundings. The map helps visually plan, mark the points you like and make convenient walking or car routes so as not to miss the most interesting.

You can walk around Sohar on your own, following the developed route and enjoying the atmosphere, or book excursions with local guides who will tell stories related to the fortresses, maritime traditions and nature of the region. Local guides will help to better understand the culture and discover little-known corners of the city, and excursions can be selected according to interests and level of preparation.
