Rustak Fortress
Description:
Rustak Fortress, translated as “Big Village”, is one of the tallest and oldest fortresses in Oman. It is a vivid example of Islamic defensive architecture and is located in the city of Sohar.
The fortress "Rustak" was built in the pre-Islamic era, in the VI century. During its existence, it was repeatedly strengthened and rebuilt, and the main part of the fortress was built in 1250. Only in the middle of the XVII century it acquired its final form. Modern Rustak looks like a small fortress, which is perfectly visible even from afar. Above it the state flag is majestically developing. At the top is a tower called Burj al-Jinn. According to the legend, it was built by demons, as the construction was completed in no short time.
Today, the Rustak fortress is one of the most significant and visited attractions of Oman. Tourists visiting this place will appreciate the magnificent whitish structure surrounded by dense thickets of trees. A visit to the upper platform of the fortress will leave an indelible impression on you, as it offers a magnificent view of the surrounding area.
