Virgo Carmen de Chincha in Peru

Description:

The Virgin Carmen is the most venerated saint in Peru
The Virgin Carmen is the most venerated saint in Peru. In various parts of the Ica department, especially in the Carmen and Guayave districts, which are mainly inhabited by Afro-Peruvians, special festivities are held in honor of St. Carmen. It is curious that in Ica the saint is known under the name Peonsita, because of the dances performed by teenagers on this day Negritus and Palitas.

The Virgin Carmen de Chincha is considered the patroness of the Métis. The main festivities in her honor are held in the town of Paucartambo, near Cusco. On the main square there are two groups of musicians, at the same time the choir performs songs in the Quechua language. And around this action, people dressed in Indian costumes dance folklore dances.

Also on the streets of the city you can see processions, accompanied by many musical ensembles and masked dancers. Processions are sent to cemeteries to pay homage to the souls of the dead.
