Saxahuaman Fortress
Description:
The ancient Peruvian fortress is another mysterious Inca building located on the outskirts of Cusco. The fortress is surrounded by three protective walls, and in its center is kept the solar calendar of the Incas. Their ruins also include a swimming pool, stock barrels, underground chambers and citadels.
The fortress is built of dense blocks that could not move modern machines, so how the fortress was built is still unknown. It is also unknown why this fortress was built. It can be assumed that the fortress protected Cuzco from conquest, but it was the first to be destroyed. It is also possible that the Inca fortress played the role of a religious center.
Now in Saxahuaman annually celebrates the festival of the Sun, which is visited by tourists, as well as Peruvians, Bolivians and Ecuadorians.
