Catholic Easter

Description:

The most magnificent celebrations are held in Braga, the Catholic capital of Portugal.
Churches for Easter are richly decorated with white flowers. At the Passover Mass, accompanied by divine music, everyone comes - from small to great. After the service, families go to the festive dinner home or to visit: to neighbors, friends, relatives. Visiting the evening is not as common as, for example, in Russia.

In many corners of Portugal, the central dish of the Easter table is Folar, a special cake made of sweet dough. It has a flat round shape, decorated on top with hard-boiled eggs.

People give each other cams with glazed almond nuts or peanuts (in the form of Easter eggs). Children in schools on the eve of the holidays are given "kinder surprises": and this is really a double joy, as students are about to have a vacation.

In addition, everywhere there are torch processions, flower parades, solemn orchestral marches - and a variety of, from professional collectives to spontaneously gathered together residents, playing who, what the city and what will have.

The most magnificent celebrations are held in Braga, the Catholic capital of Portugal. In Auren, a costumed performance of the Resurrection of Christ is traditionally held. At Castelo de Vide, the festival kicks off on Holy Saturday - the day before Easter - with a solemn selection of the lamb, which is then carried to the temple for blessing. After that, the celebrations of The Hallelujah Festival begin, smoothly flowing into a party for the whole night.

And in Palmela, Figueira and other picturesque towns, where ancient customs are especially loved and honored, in connection with the end of the great Lent, a kind of ritual “The funeral of cod” is organized. This is a real buffoon procession: fishermen carry a coffin with music, then obituaries are read, mourning is depicted “pretty”. This performance involves red clowns in black pots and full of confetti pockets.
