Pineda Gerès National Park

Avenida Ant nio Macedo, 4700-538 Braga

Description:

Pineda Gérez National Park is one of the most beautiful and unique natural attractions in Portugal. The territory of the park extends from Mount Jeresh in the south - to the mountain range of Pineda and the border with Spain in the north.

The area in which the park is located is simply stunning with its originality. The landscape here is truncated by strong winds mountain peaks and valleys covered with dense pine, oak and yew forests. Flora and fauna are very diverse, especially such a rare species as golden eagles.

In the park you can get acquainted with local ethnography. In some areas of the park, especially in the villages of Lindozu and Suazhu, the so-called espigueiros (translated as barns) have been preserved. Built of wood or granite, they rise on pillars. Inside the barns there are special holes for ventilation. These buildings were perfect for storing grain and corn, as they provided the necessary level of humidity, as well as reliable protection from rodents and chickens. A cross or pyramid was usually placed on the roof of the barn. Surprisingly, from the XVIII and XIX centuries. appearance espigueiros almost did not change.
