Busaco Palace
Palace Hotel Bussaco, Portugal
Description:
Busaco Palace is an architectural fantasy surrounded by gardens with exotic trees brought from far corners of the Portuguese Empire. This building is one of the most grandiose among the small palaces in Europe and is located in the center of a forest spread over 100 hectares of land.
The palace-hotel in Busaco was once the resting place of the Portuguese monarchs, it is one of the most mythical buildings in the country. A former Swiss-born royal chef convinced the government to let him set up a hotel in the palace.
Despite the enormous wear and tear of the numerous guests, this impressive structure has been preserved in excellent condition. Especially worth noting is the grand staircase with decorated marble balustrades, bronze floor lamps 4.5 meters wide and walls lined with blue and white tiles, which depict important scenes from Portuguese history.
Each richly furnished living room and salon is a sample of eccentric architecture.
