Monte mountain

Monte is located near the city of Funchal, on the island of Madeira. You can climb the mountain by car or by cable car. Breathtaking views of the city and the coast will meet you at the very top of Monte.

On top of the mountain there is a snow-white church, which is of particular importance for pilgrims. According to legend, in this place the Mother of God appeared to local children. It was also the last resting place of the Austro-Hungarian Emperor Charles I. In addition to the church, there is a tropical garden. On the territory of the garden grow exotic plants, live rare species of birds and animals. In the midst of flowers and shrubs stands the Monte Palace, where exhibitions of various sculptures and minerals are regularly held.

At the top of Monte, you will be offered an unusual attraction. Every traveler will have the opportunity to go down to the city on a wicker toboggan or a sleigh on wooden runners. Such an unusual vehicle is driven by colorful men in straw hats, which will easily take you back to the city.
