Serra da Estrela mountain range

Guarda County, Portugal

Description:

The Serra da Estrela mountain range is located in Portugal and is perhaps the most picturesque place in the country. The highest point of this ridge is Mount Torre, on its top there is a monument, a plate on which informs that this is the second highest peak in the country.

This amazing place is famous for many natural wonders that are difficult to see elsewhere and almost impossible to see all together.

Once there were glaciers, this is due to the unusual terrain. The mountains are covered with stones of different shapes. Glaciers have formed not only strange stone scatters, but also amazingly beautiful lakes that lie between the rocks and seem illusory blue: as if a fragment of the azure sky fell to the ground.

A huge number of rivers originate here, including the largest river Mondegu.

Another wonder of the Serra da Estrela mountain range is the numerous waterfalls. One of the most famous is called the Devil’s mouth. This name does not correspond to reality at all: a long waterfall surrounded by picturesque rocks is surprisingly beautiful.

Many skiers chose part of the mountain range, located on the territory of the eponymous natural park. Also in this area there are many ancient villages that will tell tourists about the history of these places.
