Castle in Porto de Mos
R. Galega, 2480 Porto de Ms, Portugal
Description:
The castle in Porto de Mos was built in the XIII century. Its architectural forms are very original, but are characteristic of this period. In ancient times, the castle was used as a fortified palace, but suffered severe destruction during the earthquake of 1755, which destroyed many historical monuments of Portugal. Nevertheless, well preserved fragments of walls, cone-shaped towers with green roofs, as well as an exquisite loggia.
From the outside, the castle looks emphatically strict and impressive, despite its small size. Modern owners actively exploit it, organizing various celebrations.
Not far from the castle are underground caves, where you can admire quite strange rock formations sometimes very bizarre shapes and look at the traces of dinosaurs. At the foot of the hill on which the castle stands, there is a small but very picturesque cemetery.
