Previously, there was also a Visigothic church and an Arab mosque.

The Church of Santa Maria is located in Santa Maria Square in the small town of Obidos, in the south of the municipality of Leiria, in the west of Portugal. The main features of the church are a tall white bell tower and an elegant Renaissance portal. The portico has Renaissance columns. The shrine has three naves and a ceiling with beautiful paintings. In it you can see many hand paintings on tiles dating from the XVII century. Another highlight in the interior of the church are paintings by Josef de Obidos of the XVII century. It houses the tomb of João di Noronha, church pastor and famous public figure Odidos of the XVI century.
