Rua Direita Street

Rua Direita, Obidos, Portugal.

Description:

Rua Direita is the central street of the Portuguese town of Obidos. It begins near the railway station and stretches to Piazza Luis de Camões. Along the street there are many snow-white, as if fabulous, houses originating from the Middle Ages.

There are a large number of shops, restaurants and bakeries, as well as on the street are the City Hall and the Church of Santa Maria. The street annually hosts a medieval fair, during which the entire center of the town turns into a real medieval market, with its atmospheric music, outfits and entertainment.

While walking along Rua Direita Street, you can have a tasty and inexpensive lunch, buy souvenirs and jewelry. As you know, Obidos is famous for local wines. Every tourist should definitely taste the cherry pouring ginju, which is sold literally at every step on Rua Direita. Here the ginja is prepared according to ancient recipes. According to tradition, it should be drunk from small cups of real chocolate, which, in turn, will serve as an elegant and suitable snack for pouring.
