Obidos is a city that kings gave to their brides.
The gift is royal in every sense!

Óbidos was conquered from the Moors by the first king of Portugal, Afonso, in 1148.
The magic happened when King Dinis gave the city to his wife Isabella. From then until 1883, Obidos inherited the queens. Each monarch gave it to his bride.
And the newlyweds came here to spend their honeymoon.

There was a period of desolation and destruction.
But how wonderful that the Portuguese authorities decided to make an open-air museum here.
Now all Portuguese are proud of their medieval city of brides.

The first thing in Obidush is to climb the fortress walls of the XII-XIV centuries and bypass the city from above.

Then dive into the narrow streets.

Take a look at the church of Santa Maria, where 10-year-old King Afonso was married.
The main gastronomic hit is ginjinha. Cherry liqueur served in chocolate cups.
Drink liquor, eat a glass. Brilliant.

Obidush is a city of fairs, which pass for several days on a scale.
July – Medieval Fair (knightly tournaments, minstrels, full immersion)
March 2026 – International Chocolate Festival!
December – Christmas Village (Obidos Vila Natal)
Since 2015, Obidos has been a UNESCO City of Literature.

And now my idea.
Add in the ocean and you get the perfect Portuguese day!

From Obidos to the ocean only 15-20 minutes – Foz do Arelho is a stunning place where the lagoon/lake meets the ocean.

And calm water for swimming, and ocean waves.
White sand, pine trees, fishing restaurants.
Scenario: in the morning you walk along the medieval walls, in the afternoon you eat fresh fish in Foche do Arellho, and in the evening you meet the sunset on the ocean.
