Description:
Porto is the northern capital of Portugal. The city that gave its name to the country (and the drink port) is the second most important and 4th most populous city in Portugal. Built on hills overlooking the Douro River, over which 6 beautiful bridges are thrown, one of them was built by the famous Gustave Eiffel. During a 50-minute walk along the river on a boat, you can appreciate the beauty of all the bridges.
The city of Porto is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will walk through the medieval narrow, winding streets, which serpentine down to Ribeira - the embankment of the Douro River. See the oldest house in Porto, built by a wealthy Flemish merchant at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries.
One of the main attractions of the city are: - the church of St. Francis of the 13th century, the Clerigos tower of the 18th century, the cathedral of the 12th century, one of the most beautiful railway stations in the world São Bento, the exchange palace of Palacio da Bolsa.
On the famous, beautiful two-level bridge "Luis I" (replaced the Pencil Bridge (1841), from which the memorial columns remained), the author of which is the Belgian engineer Theophil Seyrig, we will move to the opposite bank of the Douro River. To stimulate the appetite, we will visit one of the wineries of Porto to get acquainted with the production process and taste the famous gentleman’s drink “Port wine”. After tasting port wine, stop for lunch in a typical restaurant in the area of Ribeira or Cais de Gaia. After that, on a traditional boat, we will take a walk along the Douro River and admire the six bridges connecting Porto with Vila Nova de Gaia. On the funicular you can climb to the observation deck at the monastery of the Order of St. Augustine, located on the top of the Sierra del Pilar, from where you can enjoy an amazing view of the city, the river. You can take beautiful photos there. Then, on the upper level of the Luis I Bridge, we will return to Porto and continue our tour.
