Rua Monserrate Viana Cast, Viana Do Castelo, 4900, Portugal
Description:
Viana do Castelo is a port city of Portugal founded by King Afonso III in 1253. The main attractions of the city are located on the central Republic Square. Almost all the buildings on the square were built in the 16th-17th century, and have survived to this day in excellent condition.
The main decoration of the Republic Square is a majestic medieval fountain, whose age is more than 400 years. The fountain rises on a stepped stylobate, and crowns its sphere in the form of a Christian cross. The main building of the square is the town hall of Pacos do Conseljo, whose facade is decorated in the Gothic style. The main innovation of the square is the monument to Diogo Alvarez Correa erected in 2009. In the 15th century, he played an important role in the political games of Portugal.
