During the reign of the reformer Peter the Great, the khans built palaces here and enjoyed dancing odalisks. “Palace-garden” deservedly glorified by Pushkin: it is really a Mecca for travelers to the Crimea. Khan’s Palace with medieval architecture inspires romantics and connoisseurs of frozen poetry. The only large integral architectural and historical ensemble in the world occupies a place on the pedestal of the most popular places in Crimea. And this is not all the secrets of Bakhchisarai. Chufut-Kale Fortress City
The fortress city is located 3.5 km from the Khan's Palace. This is a unique monument of the early Middle Ages in the Crimea – Chufut-Kala, “cave city”. Archaeologists and scientists agree that the fortress was built in the 4-5 centuries and served as a protection settlement on the border with Byzantine possessions. Who was more afraid of whom? Constantinople Tatars or the ancient Crimeans of the Byzantine army history is silent. The cave city of Chufut Kale keeps its secrets, being a silent witness to both joyful and tragic events.
