Sightseeing tour Mangup Kale - Khan's Palace
Description:
Mangup is the largest medieval fortification in the southwestern Crimea. In the early Middle Ages, the fortress on Mount Mangup was called Doros, later the capital of the principality of Feodoro was located here.
Both Goto-Alans, Byzantines, and Khazars lived on Mangup, as well as the princes of Theodoroita. Mangup, as well as most of the settlements and fortresses of the Crimea, was captured by the Ottomans. In the period of the Crimean Khanate, the fortress was used as a prison, and after the annexation of the Crimea to Russia, Mangup gradually became empty and at the end of the 18th century the last inhabitants – Karaites – left here.
During our excursion – hike, we will climb on foot or UAZ to the citadel of Mangup, explore the ancient settlement, and then go down from the plateau and move to the city of Bakhchisarai.
In Bakhchisarai we will visit the famous Khan’s Palace – the capital of the Crimean Khanate, plunge into the life and culture of the Crimean Tatars.
