Birobidzhan Regional Museum of Local History

Right before the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, the executive committee in Birobidzhan decided to create a local history circle in the city, which was to collect a collection of exhibits for the future local history museum in a short time. In 1944, a museum was also opened.
Its first director was G. L. Greenber, who made a huge contribution to the development and formation of the local history museum. It is located in the building of the regional library named after Sholom-Aleichem. All the exhibitions organized and held in the early years showed how quickly the city grew and what it achieved in its 17 years of existence. Among the expositions were items that showed the economic and cultural development of not only the city, but also the entire Jewish Autonomous Region.
In the 80s of the last century, peace lessons and gatherings of pioneers began to take place here. In addition, the museum staff collaborated with many archaeologists and scientific libraries. The Museum and Local History Council worked on the development of cultural ties in the city and the region.
Since 2002, the Children’s Museum Center began its work here. And in 2004, the museum was awarded a diploma as an organization providing one of the best services in the city.
