S.S. Prokofiev Concert Hall
Chelyabinsk, Truda Street, 92 and
About the company:
The one-storey brick building is located at the crossroads of Truda and Kirov streets, the main facade faces Kirov Street, to the Miass River. The exact date of its construction is unknown. At the beginning of the 20th century, on the corner of Siberian Street (now Truda Street) and Ufa Street (now Kirov Street) there were two two-storey houses with shops Z.G. Galeev and Sh.A. Akhmetov, adjacent to the building of the B. Yaushev store (now CHOCG). In the early 1920s, the building of Akhmetov’s shop suffered from a fire and was empty for several years. In the late 20s, reconstruction was carried out (the foundation and walls were used) to accommodate the Proletary cinema. Window openings were laid, the appearance of the building changed. In 1946-1948, according to the project of architect K. D. Evteev, the second reconstruction was carried out (interiors with the participation of F. L. - Serebrovsky). The Chelyabinsk Operetta Theatre was located here for a short time. The exterior dimensions of the building after reconstruction are 32.7*16.1. There was an open courtyard decorated with a 6-column portico of the Ionic order. The wall of the main facade of the building was decorated with pilasters of the Corinthian order, the main entrance is decorated with stucco. On the side facades (on the side of Truda Street and the Miass River) are arched semicircular window openings framed by archivolts. Above the four-sided roof was built the volume of the stage box with a gable iron roof. The interiors of the foyer and auditorium are decorated with stucco. December 28, 1971 in memory of the performance in the Philharmonic A. A. Fadeev on the facade from the street. Kirov was installed a memorial plaque with a bas-relief of galvanic copper (sculptor I.V. Beschatnov). In this form, the building existed until the late 80s, when it was decided to carry out major repairs and reconstruction. Back in the 80s, everyone knew this old building. Every night from the street. Kirov opened the doors of this building and hundreds of residents and guests of the city entered. It was the center of musical life of Chelyabinsk: in the early 80s more than 100 season tickets were developed for its listeners a year. Chelyabinsk lost the hall for 700 seats with excellent acoustics for more than 15 years. On September 11, 1997 the Philharmonic Concert Hall was named after Prokofiev. On September 13, 2000, on the day of the celebration of the 264th anniversary of Chelyabinsk, the grand opening of the monument to Prokofiev (sculptor – People’s Artist of the Russian Federation V. A. Avakyan) took place. (Peace be upon him, but the work is done.) According to the project of the architect E. V. Alexandrov (project 1992-1994, construction since 1993, the chief architect of the project B. T. Babakov), the overall dimensions of the building changed during the reconstruction, the courtyard is included in the main volume. The main facade repeats the motives of the previous design - a six-column portico of the Ionic order, crowned with a stepped attic and Ionic pilasters. The entrance and windows of the first floor are high rectangular, the second - arched with archival volts. The side facades are decorated with Ionic semi-columns (from the Miass River) and pilasters (from the Truda Street). On the roof above the side facades is a balustrade. In the built two-storey part from the side of the street. Kirov has a cash register, office premises, on the second floor - a buffet. The latitude of the building increased towards the Miass River by 10 meters. In this part, a two-storey extension appeared, in which a two-light foyer with a balcony, artistic dressing rooms, service rooms are located. The wardrobe and smoking room are in the basement. In the auditorium 540 seats (the project 25 meters), there was an amphitheater and a balcony. By reducing the length of the hall by 4 meters, an orchestra pit was organized. The stage box has been completely reconstructed, the stage equipment has been replaced. The interiors of the auditorium are decorated with a stucco garland framing the portal of the stage (painter A. P. Panov), on the side walls there are 10 bas-reliefs of Russian and Western European composers (sculptor A. V. Avakyan). In the decoration used Ufaley and Koelgin marble, two-color parquet. Above the balcony of the auditorium there is a light projection and director's remote. The hall, foyer, cash lobby, buffet is supposed to be decorated with ornament and plot painting (artist S. L. Cherkashin, K. V. Fokin), decorate with ceramic vases (sculptor A. P. Kudryavtsev), banquets (based on Alexandrov’s sketches), marble sculpture “Muse” (sculptor Avakyan). New details will appear (posters, floor lamps for outdoor lighting from Kaslin casting, forged grilles from the Miass River), which will decorate the building of the concert hall.
