State Historical Museum of the Southern Urals

Chelyabinsk region, Chelyabinsk, str. Labora, D. 100

About the company:

The State Historical Museum of the Southern Urals stores more than 300,000 items - material evidence of the long and rich history of the region. The museum has a centuries-old history (it was founded in 1923) and in 2006 one of the first in the country acquired a specialized building. It is unique: it resembles a fortress in shape, since it was built on the very place where in the XVIII century there were defensive structures from which Chelyabinsk began. Today, this fortress stands guard over cultural and historical values.

The South Ural Historical Museum is:

  1. More than 10,000 square meters of exhibition space. Visitors are welcomed by 3 halls of the permanent exhibition, large and small exhibition halls, a children's museum, a museum and exhibition center, a museum on the roof, a stone garden, a modern sculpture park and an open world street gallery.
  2. More than 70 exhibitions annually.
  3. Up to 220,000 visitors a year.
  4. 2.6 million visitors since opening in the new building.
  5. Annual international festivals: Photofest photography festival and Debarkader contemporary art festival.
  6. Annual scientific international and regional conferences, including the museum conference Gorokhov Readings.
  7. Methodological and educational center for museum workers throughout the Chelyabinsk region.
